composite GDT callout help

$

slightly skewed example of part, front and side view below, it is a simple pawl.
not 100% sure what to do with this GDT call out... (i've got some guesses but i'll see what people say).

1. Can I just take dev from D and C or do i need to account for C being at an angle?

2. What are the composite parts looking for?

3. How do I handle the composites in pcdmis?

Checking for twist

I have a part that they are wanting to check for twist, the part measures 72.5" long. I need to find a repeatable way to fixture and check this part, without changing the free state characteristics of the part. Up for suggestion. We have a B&S with a TP-200.

HI,
how I can change Z value for the rotating wrest so doesn't crash with the part. !!! Another question is that a good practice to use constructed features for my primary alignment. Thank you

Importing CAD, What am I missing??

What's up guys?!

First of all thanks again for all the help and resources you guys have been. My last posts and replies were great, but as I've come to learn, I have another question with this demon. Lol

I'm creating a program for the Airfoil of a Turbine blade. So far, everything else has been great for me. Here's the problem that I just can't get right:

When I import my CAD model, I can't never get it to the position of the actual part on my cmm. I've tried Transform, Iterative Aligns, and alignments from what I've seen in the forums. I STILL can't get this thing to be where I want it. Seems like this step, getting the CAD where I want it is the main thing holding me up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the CAD model has the data (noms, Meas stuff) that I need for reporting right? Lol

Sorry, but I just really want to figure out what I'm missing. Maybe I need a good example or explanation of this process of getting a CAD model where you want it. I even thought I could get 1 over on pc dmis by creating 2 features, finding where they intersect, and transforming the CAD model there. NOPE

Strange pop-up telling me to not use more than 10 characters

I have NEVER seen this one. This pop-up only occurs when trying to create a scan, (any type of scan) It comes up for about 4 times upon opening a scan dialog box. And then a few times when creating parameters for the scan (Graphics select tab, Execution tab, Path Definition/Generate....etc.......) Geezus!! This is a VERY strange one to me!! ANYONE see this?? Anyone figure how to kill this??
It has only started this morning, but haven't created scans for a few weeks, so hard to figure track down what's causing it.

Report info

Hello All,
I was asked by the "powers that be" to define my part report. Eng. said "other" measurement software reports out a feature giving the XYZ and TP as one dimension, not two separate dimensions. I told them pcdmis will give the XYZ in the TP dimension, but not the tolerance, plus, I have seen the surface axis change the TP result. Am I missing something here? Is there a way in Legacy to report out all the dimension info, including tolerances. Please let me know. I agree with them, it would be nice to have all feature info in one dimension, I just never seen it.

Xact measure composite reporting

$

Background: We save our reports as PDF and Excel. The Excel copy gets imported into our FAI (Ideagen Q-PULSE FAIR) program which populates the dimensions. PDF goes to customer.

The issue is that the FAI program populates dimensions by dimension number (as coded in FAIR and PC-DMIS) and, in the FAI program, the composites are coded separately (top half and bottom half). Currently I put in an operator comment in DMIS saying that the composite dimensions need to be entered manually due to Xact measure. Is there a way I can get composites to report the top half and bottom half with different dimension numbers without having to dimension them separately and breaking apart the composite? Possibly by using assignments/variables/generic features to pull apart the composite dimension and dimension them elsewhere leaving the original as a reference?

See attached picture.

Reporting datumless profile with unilateral tolerance

I'm ok with a datumless profile, and I'm OK with unilateral tolerancing for profile, but having both is causing me a slight headache. Would it be as simple as best fitting the shape with no restrictions then reporting form and location +.003/-.000? Doing form only doesn't protect me from understock...

Seem reasonable?

Another MMC Slot Thread

I tried to use the search function, and I couldn't find this particular method. I think I've used it before, but I just wanted to make sure it's legit before I run my first piece:

1. Create a plane on each side of the slot
2. Create a 3d constructed width feature using the two planes
3. Create a constructed "projection" circle of the width feature
4. Dimension the position of that circle in the one axis and utilize MMC

Stainless Steel Cylinder vs Ruby Cylinder Stylus

Hey folks,

I hope I'm putting this in the right place, please correct me if this question belongs somewhere else.

I've used a lot of different styli at different jobs, but I've never been in the position of deciding which one is the best use case. I'm at a crossroads where we need to order more cylinder styli so that we don't wind up in a spot with no measuring tool because what we have breaks, gets bent, etc.

I tried searching online and I found articles talking about best use for ball tips relative to use case, but I couldn't find anything about cylinder styli.

I'm checking stamped automotive parts. Some are sheet metal thin, some have a bit more heft. I tend to use a ball tip for the thicker parts, and we have plenty of those left from my predecessor.

What are the pros and cons of using a stainless steel cylinder stylus vs using a ruby cylinder stylus when checking sheet metal parts?

Thanks again

Simulated datum shift

The EIC of the newest project here wants to include "A possible simulated datum shift" within an inspection program. (Basically, we are allowed to flex the part with X pounds force, thus slightly moving the datum structure.) Can PCDmis replicate this, and if so, how?

Having difficulty with an alignment

Hello,

I am having difficulty matching the alignment that is shown in the picture below.
I have tried different methods and using different features and just cannot get it right. I'm guessing i will need some sort of constructed line or feature to get the origin to be in space like that?
If anybody can help it would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Inspecting with Camera

Hey guys! I'm brand new to CMM programming. I have all of 3 weeks or so of experience with all of this. I was given the task of learning to run the CMM at our shop. I have not gone through any formal training. So far all my training has been self taught using the instruction manual, youtube videos and this forum. So much great information here.

I am using PCMIS 2019 R1 with a Hexagon Optiv Reference 10103 Dual Z machine. Our machine has probe, scan probe, camera and laser scan capabilities. I'm getting a pretty good handle on the probing portions. Right now I am working on inspecting two identical parts. As of now, I have the machine probing all the features of part 1 and when it is completed it moves over to the second part on the table and runs the same measurements on part 2.

It takes about 10 minutes to inspect both parts. I know I am definitely not using our machine to its full capabilities but I'm having to move along on my own until we can get Hexagon here on site for training. My question is this......Is there a way to utilize my camera to scan a part and get the same measurements I am getting with the probe? I understand it is possible and could save time. I just want to try to see what this machine is capable of and find the easiest, fastest and most accurate way to inspect my parts.

Dear vpt.se
I would like to ask you about PC-DMIS 4.2 MR1 translation. During our CMM startup in 2008, we got PC-DMIS 3.7 MR1 software from Hexagon local distributor. We also got separate CD with resource.dll file and after copying this file to instalation folder and overwriting the original file, PC-DMIS starded with Polish language. I know, there was no PC-DMIS 3.7 official Polish version. The question is how distributor did prepare this file? I would like to do the same with resource.dll for 4.2 MR1.

With using translated file from 3.7 and overwriting it in 4.2 instalation folder it results in warning window during startup. After skipping, program menu is Polish but we haven't connected CMM yet so i don't know how other things look like. I'm afraid, there will be more warnings in work. Unfortunately we have USB dongle with update expiration date that allow us to install only versions up to 4.2 MR1 (4.3 has official Polish language support).

I know there are some bugs in 4.2 but the reason why we would like to use 4.2 MR1 is because we would like to change PC workstation and new one is on Windows 7. BTW Is there any way to install 3.7 on Windows 7 without virtual machine on Windows 7?
Considering resource.dll and translation - maybe I can use some kind of decompiler, but I don't know what programming language was used to create it.
I'm writing to you because of your reputation on the forum and joining date. If you are not able to help me, maybe you know someone who can?

Best regards
Martin
