pcd2excel

When using an external command to execute pcd2excel automatically how do you get the files to increment properly. I am using the pcd2excel wizard to set up the first report and am naming it SA#1. Why is the next report labelled SA#11. Thought it would increment SA#1, SA#2, SA#3....

Thanks

An easy Iterative alignment question I hope

I don't use iterative alignments very often, and am having a small problem. My part does not have any flat surfaces or straight lines to use for a conventional alignment. I am able to fixture it very repeatably though.
What I am trying to do is pick up the first part using Iterative alignment, then have all future parts run the Iterative alignment in DCC mode to locate the part. How do I skip over the manual hit process on all future part inspections?

CAD level control in program

Is it possible to program CAD levels to turn on and off?

Example: Checking a part with holes that get gage pins inserted in them so the CMM can take points around the pin. I want to have the gage pin appear in the cad when it is time to insert the pin then disappear when it is time to remove the pin.

My immediate thought was to use CAD levels and have them turn on and off but I'm not sure how to do it if that is even possible. The goal is to make the programs as user friendly and dumb proof as possible.

Has anyone ran into this?
Some of my older proven programs have changed while saved.. I start the program and it crashes, I then look at the feature paths and some are way off when others are fine. It has happened a couple time. Any thoughts?

Hi,

hope you don't mind me giving you a private message.

firstly thanks for your suggestions on my previous post

I've seen from a few forum posts that you have a bit of experience on form editor

I was wondering if you could give some advice on the scripting.

I have a basic understanding on visual basic but haven't done anything for a number of years.

I was wondering if you could maybe help with explaining how to link some of the code on the form.

I want to use the form as a template for other jobs. I have attached an example.

I know what I want to do its just remembering the coding side of things

appreciate it you could help, if you cant or too busy then that's not a problem

Unwanted reactivating marked tip changes

$

When taking a program I've written for a full layout, and marking out certain sections to only perform a portion of the measurements, some or all of my marked tip changes will unmark themselves when I execute the program.

I checked to make sure it wasn't connected to a feature that was set to automatically assign a tip change, and I've recreated some, but to no avail. It still happens. I know there's a way to disable them as I've done it in the past and it's kept them marked.

Can someone help?

Thank you!

Installing Inspect add-ons offline

Hi,
I am trying to setup Inspect 3.2 to run with PC-DMIS 2019R1, I realized the already setup version that came with the CMM, doesn't include the add-ons for the PCDMIS 2019 version (since 2019 wasn't released when the equipment purchase was made perhaps ). Is there a way to have these requested separately from Hexagon or download it from the wilcoxassociates ftp server, if so if someone could point me to find the procedure to install them offline as well?
Note: I work in a FDA regulated environment and none of the shop floor computerized equipment have access to the internet, so things have to be done the hard way., hope fully if there is one in this case.
Thanks.

Legacy dimensions and alignments

Good afternoon,
I think I am missing something. I am working on this project and they want me to use legacy dimensions. When I align to the datums for dimensioning, one I go back to probing, am i suppose to recall the original alignment or continue with the last used alignment?

Milling detection while scanning

Hello,

I'm trying to get the coordinates of 2 intersection points between a round cylindrical part and a milling. (see below)
I could have get them easily with CAD programming but the problem is that the position of the milling is random from one part to another, as well as the positioning on the fixture.

Do I have to create a routine using polar distance from the center to detect when the OD is decreasing ?
Or is there an easier method ?

Thanks.

Comparing True Position of Two Holes on Manual CMM

$

We have an older Brown & Sharp Gage 2000 which is a manual CMM. This part is machined on a 5 axis mill so we are trying to measure the position of the holes compared to each other (concentricity). Right now I am setting surface A as the reference plane and cylinder 1 as the origin. I then go to the other side (exact mirror of pictured side) and measure the cylinder over there. It gives me a X and Z axis position that is way off of what was recorded on a new off-site Zeiss CMM. Also, I tried the same exact measurement method three times in a row to check repeatability. Without moving the part, the X and Z offsets change as much as .003in. I have also tried several different measuring methods and have still come up with a no-good repeatability.

Does anyone have any suggestions or can point out what I am doing wrong?

Xact and legacy dimensioning

$

I know this has been discussed at length on this forum and I have read most of the post. I just wanted to share what I have learned about the two, whether I am right or wrong I wanted the opinion of others.

Just a little history I work for a global company that have many sites while I am the most experienced and knowledgeable programmer at my site I often find my self in a debate with another site that has many programmers. They use legacy exclusively where I tend to use Xact.

What I have found is that in most cases the issue in which scheme is used is understanding what Xact does and further understanding the intent of the design. The main issue I hear from other programmers is they don't trust Xact especially if the FCF doesn't constrain all 6 DOF's and the datum shift shows up on the reports. After extensive testing and back and for between Hexagon and GD&T experts I have come to two conclusions.

1. Either the designer didn't properly constrain all 6 DOF's due to lack of understanding of GD&T or that was the original intent.
2. if you use legacy and the intent was to not constrain all 6 DOF's you are not reporting the correct information. Since legacy is based off of the alignment which locks all 6 DOF's.

So what happens is a lengthy back and forth about who is right and if the part is good or not. There is another underlying issue based on which version of the PC-Dmis we are "allowed" to use by company standard. I really don't think in this case version is an issue. I post this because while most of the post regarding legacy vs exact are many years old I would like to get the opinions of the forum on this. If needed I can go into more detail.

TIA
