How is 2017 R1 working for you?

I finally have my 4 CMM's all on the same version (2015.1 SP6). I have had to deal with a few issues in this version...(I know that is par for the course). , Find hole quit working for most programs, on others it still works. I have one machine that intermittently ignores pre-hit and retract settings. Today, I had another event happen that makes me want to find the next version.

Today's event: In running a proven program for a large cylindrical (40 inch OD X 16 inches tall setting on blocks - 350 lb. part) the program has a move point above the part at the front of the table and a operator comment explaining that a probe (not loaded in the rack) is needed, select ok and the current probe will be dropped off so that the operator can then load the probe. I would've have had my doubts had this happened to anyone else. I saw some crap on the probe so I took the probe off (TP200) cleaned it, put it back on, and selected ok...go drop off that probe, and the head went straight for the probe rack trying to go through this 350 lb. part, ignoring the defined "mount point" for the probe rack. The machine moved the part about 3 inches, almost knocked it off the blocks, left a scar on the "ball" of the PH10M plus head. Luckily, that appears to be all the damage. I had to re-square the head, and re-calibrate the rack. Could not duplicate this occurrence by going into the program in online mode.

My prior research led me to consider 2017 R1 as our next version...How is it working for you?
Does Paste with Pattern work?
Does find hole work?
Do you have any particular issues with 2017 R1?
I believe I have it right that this version was the last before the badly reviewed new Icons? I would like find hole to work for me...I've got lots of holes here and people who set up parts incorrectly. With all those holes, I certainly would like Paste with Pattern to keep working for me...fully as it has to this point (only failed on the rarest of occasions).

Thanks in advance for your reply,

I had a generic login/password for a while with my new job. I was given my own login/password recently but I do not know how to take my window layout and save it to my new login. I have searched the forum but I have not found what I was looking for. If any one could give me some help I would appreciate it. We have PC-DMIS 2018 R2.
Thanks, Cindy

Preview scanning path line, online vs offline computer

Hi everyone,

I have a issue which I have tried googling on this site and searching but maybe i'm not asking the correct term. I will have pictures included, my first one will be the online computer or the cmm and the second one is the offline computer. On the offline one I can see my path lines for the scan but when I go and run it on my online or cmm computer I cannot get it to show the same results. My old boss had messed with some settings and I can't seem to find a way to make it go back to what it was. The scan path I am showing is the same program.

Thanks for the help!!

Reference Dimension How To

How can I add a reference dimension to the report without having a plus or minus tolerance? What I mean is, I don't want to see +0.0000 and -0.0000 all I want to see on the report is the actual measured dimension, the nominal and how far it deviates. and no matter how far the measured value is from the nominal that the report shows it as acceptable (GREEN) even if its off by a mile.

Would I have to change the report and not show the +TOL, -TOL, and OUTTOL for reference dimensions every time or is there something simpler? Turning these on and off each time I have a reference dimension is like work. Even when I remove the extra stuff it still shows as red in color, Engineers do not like the red color, how do I change it to green, would I have to put a +/- 1,000 inches?

When using Calypso it is as simple as not putting a checkmark in the +TOL and -TOL sections. Does PC-DMIS have something as simple as that?

Programming Live minus CAD.

Good evening,
I am programming a part live without a CAD model and wanted to use auto features but, its not working out so good. I am sure its user error as I am used to having a CAD all the time, whether I am on the machine or not. So, how do I use auto features without the model?

Dimension Sets?

Hi all, I'm trying to create commands at the bottom of programs to easily turn analysis arrows on/off for specific sets easily. I. E. Set of holes, Upper skin only, bottom skin only ect. I've created feature sets which allows me to turn the arrows on/off for the features I've included but I have differing tolerances so it can't be used as it overrides all features in that set with the same tolerance. Basically, I want to know if there is a way to simply group dimensions rather then feature sets.

Regards, Harison.

Aligning With Part CAD But No Fixture CAD

I have a fixture with stamped coordinates for tooling blocks but do not have fixture CAD. What is the best method to associate the part CAD with the fixture alignment?

Iterative Alignment, FCF, B Points Won't make nice Rotational Feature.

Hey all, so I'm struggling through using Iterative alignments for the first time. (level 2 class can't come fast enough).

I found more than enough info on here to get the Iterative alignment working but now I need to report out some GD&T. Long story short I was using legacy but now I actually have dimensions so I would like to use Xact and be able to show the FCF.

I can create a Plane from A1-A3, C1 is just a point, but B1 and B2 aren't oriented in a way that I can create a nice line that will match with my Trihedron/ vector of A. I've attached a quick drawing to show the datum targets. How should I go about this?

Started working with PC-Dmis 2017 R2 and have been programming for about 1 1/2 years. Basically self taught without any formal training or hexagons classes, all from this forum and youtube.

HP-S-X1H Scanning Probe touch speed

I was told by Hexagon support to use 2mm per second touch speed but when the tech was here to calibrate my machine he was using 5mm per sec. what do you use?

Power Supply's Fuses went bad, I hope...

Came in to work the other morning and the machine was off and didn't respond to the power switch at all. (Computer was working fine, didn't have any power outages overnight)
Contacted Hex and they gave a list of things to check before scheduling a tech.
It looks like (hopefully) just a bad fuse in the power supply unit.
The new fuses are coming today.

My question is if the new fuses fix everything will I have to configure the machine at all or can I just calibrate and let 'er rip?
Is it the same as turning the machine off, or is it different since the power supply had no power?

Alignment issue

I have a part with datum a as a plane with my z+ origin, Datum B a plane as my X- origin and a circle out in space as my datum C. When I go to run the cmm I get an Y axis error, the CMM is trying to go 36.625" out in space. I have not done any polar alignments, is this the case here. Do you need to see my program? Not sure if I can post it due to my download limit exceeded and I cant delete anything.

Profile

Needing some clarification, I'm saying that the profile in the picture is for form and location due to the location constraints from datum A & B, my counterpart is saying form only. The two dimensions that locate this feature from the datum's are boxed (not shown). See attached .jpg below and let me know who is correct. Thank you in advance.

Variable Auto Features not updating

I have a part family that I am creating a variable program for, and am running into issues with the values not updating in the auto features. I've assigned variables at the top of the program, and then use those variables in Auto Circles. The problem I have is that when I type in a new value for the variable, the hits in the auto features don't update. Example. I assign ID=1, and then set the diameter on my auto circle to "ID". The first time through it runs fine for that part. Then when I change it to ID=2, and rerun the program, it tries to measure a 1" ID still. Is there a setting to force the hits to be updated every time a program is ran? I did this same thing 10-15 years ago and have programs that have been running flawlessly ever since, but can't seem to get it to work now.

pcdmis model size

we are using PCDMIS for CMM and have direct Catia interface for our machine. my problem is the latest model i brought in seems too large for PCDMIS to handle so the graphics have slowed down to almost nothing. is there a way to reduce the model size either in catia or pcdmis to help with my graphics? right now it is unusable.
