subroutines

I have a family of parts that I'd like to use subroutines to measure. This would be my first time using them, so I just wanted to post quickly to see if I have the right idea.

I will have about a half dozen subroutines for the different sizes of groove faces, and 4 subroutines for the variations of millwork. Once I have those named and written (features and report items within each subroutine), I'll create each program with manual, then DCC alignment, then call the correct subroutines. Is this correct? Will the subs use the active alignment? or would they need to have their own alignment within the subroutine?

I'm hoping to accomplish this so that when there are print changes in the future, I can go into the subroutine, update the nominal once, and have all the parts using that sub be happy again. :-) AND, so that when I learn something new & awesome, I have many fewer places to go implement that new & awesome thing!
