Good morning,
I have started the machine this morning and I am getting a TCP/IP communication failure. Switch to RS-232? What does that mean and how to fix it?

"Encountered an improper argument" hovering cursor over assignments and/or writelines

This has been plaguing me for eons.
It's kind of like the first time an optometrist corrects your vision and you realize you've been dealing with crappy vision up until that point... Well, I've had this issue with 2012MR1, and I just realized that on 2018R1 SP7 IT STILL PERSISTS. What the efffff Hexagon? How can you not fix this after over a dozen releases?

Here's the situation:
write routine.
add assignments
add file/writelines
hover over anything prior to executing, and it will give you the little box showing the resultant output for assignments or writelines.
execute the routine, and hover your cursor over ANY assign or writeline, even inadvertently, and you get this silly error pop up. "Encountered an improper argument" you have to click OK on to continue.
it makes doing any changes to assigns or writelines a fricken game. let's see how quickly you can move cursor to where you need it, click to place cusor then move mouse away from all other assigns or writelines, or else! bah! /endrant.

Anyone looking for software that will upload from the PC-DMIS files? Dimensional Inspection Software, Inc. is now available again.
This software will upload rich text files created within PC-DMIS and could eliminate human typos.
This software has several advantages to the user. Once uploaded the user can setup the report to calculate true position worksheet with modifiers that will calculate all the parts uploaded once setup. The user can also setup the control frames so they show on the reports as well. Devices can be entered for each measurement on the report. Comments can be entered so they show on the report as well.
Once you have a report setup and you have to measure on another date then this report can be used as a template as long as there were no changes to the dimensioning.
I have been using this software for several years and love how it saves on time.

I would recommend this software to all PC-MDIS users!

This software can be found at www.disinspect.com

Building a New Calibration Sphere

I'd like to build a new calibration sphere for using smaller diameter sytli. I have a 5mm sphere mounted at 45 degrees on a base. I know my two position vectors will be .707 based off how it's orientated on the table. How do I figure out my x,y and z location for the new sphere. Do I measure it to get close? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We are running Pc Dmis 2013 MR1 and has been running smoothly for the longest.
recently we have been fighting with the probe flipping upside down in the graphics display window after the manual plane alignment.
it doesnt seem to do it but with a specific probe. but once it does it you can change the probe but its still corrupted.
I've managed to run a program on top of another like a dry run and that has fixed it a few times but not every time.
as soon as it hits DCC mode it crashes because it moves straight to the next move and doesn't read the clearplane line.
and it shows the probe on the graphic display window to be flipped.
even when you F9 and look at the probe in its profile it shows it flipped sometimes.
I've made a new probe profile and it seemed to work but didn't fix it. its spiratical.
any ideas? fixes for this. I'm floating in dead water.
And this is with proven programs that we've ran for years. this just recently started happening to our good running programs.

TR_FG014, Wrist error (Cant find a issue like mine on other posts)

I have a TR_FG0`14,wrist error. It seems to be unlike anything else I have seen in other posts. First I just saw the CMM running so I am sure it was not crashed. A guy just finished checking a part. He goes to put another part on & I get the error. I shut everything down numerous times. It is not thr PH10M because I have a backup & it gets the same error. PH10M does not move at all, but machine start works, CMM can be driven in all axis's. But as soon as the program asks the angle to change it errors out. I am guessing this is a wiring issue. Anyone have any ideas??

Using a Global Image 5-7-5 with PCDMIS 3.7mr2. Head is a PH10M.

Midpoints in bends on a tube

$

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone could explain how to get some of these points in this drawing, and hopefully help in getting a dimension.

For this part, I would create a plane on the left end of the part, followed by cylinders for each straight. Then a plane on the right side. Next, I would construct a pierce point for plane 1 and cylinder 1 which would give me midpoint 1. Then construct an intersection point between cylinder 1 and 2, and that would be midpoint 2. I would continue this for the rest of the tube until i get to the last pierce point giving me midpoint 7. I have learned that i can create a cast point on cylinder 2, and it will give me midpoint 2.2; however, I have not yet been able to figure out a way of getting any of the x.1 midpoints.

That is where my question starts: How can i get these .1 midpoints? I feel like I've tried every combination of picking two cylinders and all the different types of points, and have had no luck in getting them. I have XYZ coordinates for these points, but more importantly, i have length-of-straights dimensions that are taken as a measurement between for example 1 to 2.1. This is a crucial measurement to the fit/form/function of our part, and as of now, i have absolutely no way of checking it.

My second question is this: Almost every part we have has a dimension for mid 1 to mid 7 across the Y-axis (as shown). But they will also dimension in this case, the top of cylinder 1 to the bottom of cylinder 7 (relative to the Y-axis) across the Y-axis. Every time i try to measure Cyl 1 to Cyl 2 across the Y-axis (with plus diameter getting me the closest), I never can seem to quite get a passable measurement.

Any help in either of these matters would be greatly appreciated. Click image for larger version

True Position: Datum Shift Discrepancy

$

I have an angled brackets. Two holes on each surface, angle is at 125°. Datum A is a plane, Datum B is a hole through Datum A, which is perpendicular to A. There is a hole on a 125° angled surface in line with Datum B in the X axis. Datum C is a line created between Datum B and the angled hole. Part is positioned parallel to the Y-axis on the CMM. When I apply the MMB to Datum B, the position gets worse than if I measure it against it's physical Y & Z locations. Why would the datum shift move the two holes closer together (see shift of -0.379 in Y). How is this possible?

Auto Features on a live Part

Good afternoon,
i want to know how to do auto Features on a live part. I've always programmed from CAD and whenever I programmed an actual part, I used measured features .I know I'm backwards but that's how I learned. Thank you in advance!

Default ID for unique features

$

Is there a way to keep default ID's for each type of feature in a program.

Example, I program 15 holes ...Hole_1, Hole_2....ect

Then I program a slot, default the ID to SLOT_1

Go back to programming holes and keep circle features at Hole_3 instead of SLOT_2.

I swear this function worked on another station, but I cant seem to find where the setting is.

Need New Distribution Board

My Excel 9-15-9 Cmm Took a dump. They say it needs a new distribution board 80-410-212 in the controller. They no longer sell these, does anyone know were I might get one or have board rebuilt?
The other option is retrofitting a new controller on machine. Has anyone had any luck doing this?

probe build graphic

I've built a probe (9=-WAY) with two knuckles on tips 2 & 6. I need both knuckles to be rotated down (Z-) & outward
(X+/X-) @ 45°. Does the graphic have to visually match the actual stylus system? If so, how to I get the knuckles to
rotate to the positions and angles I want (graphically)?

Pause between taking hits

I'm running a Global S Green. We use Touch Trigger and when I'm running the program there is a Giant pause in-between the hits on the core. I ran the same program previously and this program has not done this in the past. I have Fly mode on, so I don't get why the cmm is doing this? Nothing has changed in the program.

Marked Set Icon 2019 R1

Hi all!!
I have been using PC-DMIS for a couple of years now. Last year they sent the 2018 R1 when we renewed our license. When I installed it, there was no longer a marked set icon on the toolbar ( which we use for every part we run). So I kept using my 2017 version. I just received the 2019 R1 and installed it and of course the marked set icon isn't an option the best I can tell.
I don't want to keep using the 2017 version forever. Is there a way to add the marked set icon to the toolbar or do I have to go through the edit menu every time?

Axes flip on program startup

$

Hi All,

I'm having an issue with programs I'm writing for the Romer Arm. Every time I open up any of the programs and run through it, the axes I'm setting up are flipping. So this program I wrote worked fine yesterday, but opening and running it today, my x and z axes are flipped, so my first hole position that should be 1,-47,-237 is coming out close to -1,47,237.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

Code I'm using for my startup and alignments is below.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PCDMIS losing its mind...

$

I recently upgraded from 2013 to 2018 R2. For the most part the upgrade went as expected. However, every day when I power up my CMM and try to launch 2018 from the task bar by right clicking and selecting a program to run, it does not remember where the part programs are. I get this pop up screen that says the file does not exist. The file, of course, exists. I can see it in explorer on our server. I don't have this problem with 2013.

How do I cure PCDMIS's dimensia problem?
