We are in the process of scheduling the annual service/calibration. and because our company is TS 16949 accredited we need UKAS Certified calibration. We haven't previously had this, only the yearly calibration. However as we now do I have asked hexagon to add this to the quote.
so on top of the usual calibration cost, this will add £601 (per volume). They recommend that we purchase two because of the size of our machine as a volume only covers 1m per axis. So this will add £1202 onto the calibration cost. Understandably I think, my boss is a little annoyed by this price hike.
Could someone explain what the 'per volume' means and why I need two of them. I have a 12.30.10 machine, so technically my X and Z axis are easily covered with the two volumes but my 3m Y axis isn't fully covered? if I am understanding how it works.
Is this just Hexagon charging way over the odds? I have never had on any other externally calibrated equipment a price increase of 40% for adding UKAS certification before.
