Hello all!.....
We are running a Brown & Sharpe XCEL 7.10.7 model from the mid 90's. We have a dedicated air compressor for the CMM.
PCDMIS v2015.1 sp7
We only run one shift and shut the entire system down at shift end.
Recently a newbie left our CMM "ON" overnight with no air.
Since then I've had several issues with the CMM that I haven't seen before. Well...I actually think it is the same issue, I just didn't get error messages the first time.
The first instance (the next morning during start up) it was as if the CMM just froze during start up......I got to the point where the software prompts for a machine start but no response from the CMM. I shut down several times with the same results. The last time was for a longer period of time. I was able to bring the system back up with no more issues. This happened once more, I didn't see an error message either time. The third time this happened I did receive an error message - "Amplitude Error". I researched it...shut the system down, cleaned the scales, restarted with no issues. Now, I can't say that cleaning the scales resolved the issue (we clean the scales weekly) and I know it didn't hurt to clean the scales again. I haven't had the error since though. I have also seen some questionable results from the CMM, which isn't really anything new.....someone on the shop floor is always questioning the results....
. Since I look at every report for every part measured I do have a little experience in what is the "norm" for our machine....and I have seen some results since the amplitude error that concern me.
My question is this.....would leaving the machine "on" for an extended period with no air cause the amplitude error?
